The World of Window Shopping

Often time the world of fashion mirrors the world around it. Just as there are differences from country to county there are differences from store to store and from store window to store window. This is a short article about the amazing variety of window displays. My area of focus is the Ala Moana hotel in Honolulu Hawaii.

Although some people would think that Hawaii is not the world’s greatest place to shop I can assure you anyone who has ever been there knows otherwise. In the mall mentioned above there are so many high end store that just walking through the mall itself is an experience. This is not to say that the only reason the mall is enjoyable is because there are a lot of high end companies who invested big money in placing their stores in the mall, there are also many other attractions. When I was there last year with my family we went to a concert in the mall and from what I understand there are concerts there on an almost constant basis.

But I’ll walk you through some of the more interesting diversity that I was in the windows of some of these amazing places. There were windows with mannequins that have the heads of jungle animal. There were parrots and lions and giraffes. There were windows with transparent and stainless steel mannequins dressed in the most interesting clothing.

The sheer amount of creativity that goes into designing and developing is truly remarkable. And this is not to take away from the brilliant psychological insight into the human mind character that fuels the concepts of design. This is an aspect of shopping that I think not enough people enjoy and they really should. Stopping to smell the roses is one of the most important things in life.
