The Mannequin Show

Recently I was at a trade show for small stores in the garment business. It took a few years for my wife to convince me to actually attend one of those things. We have owned a shop that I inherited from my father and sell men’s and women’s clothing and I always thought that I was simple.

I have been doing things more or less the same way for over twenty years and have been able to earn a modest living. I never thought that I should really apply myself to the store because it was covering itself and I was happy with what I was making. This is not a short story about someone pursuing his dreams. As I mentioned earlier, I had inherited this store from my father and had no interest in running a store growing up. I wanted to play baseball for the pros but I couldn’t make the cut and after I left collage and got married I needed something to be able to make a living and the clothing store was really my only option at the time.

I can complain about the store because it has enabled me to put both of my children through college and has been the source of my families’ livelihood. My wife on the other had loved working in the store. She makes all of the collection and handles all of the orders. The truth is that I really have to thank her for making the store the success that it is. There is no way that we would still be in business without her. But at the same time I found getting involved in the details of the store boring and tedious and had no inters in investing in promotion and research. So when my wife would ask me to come along to trade show I would take a rain check.

To make a long story short I ended up going to this show and was actually interested in some of the things going on there, I saw a brilliant display of display mannequins and actually brought a few of them. I set them up in the store the next day and then my wife arraigned them with the popular outfits and so forth.

I can even begin to tell you have dramatically our sales have increases. People are spending more time in our store and purchasing more of our products. There is no question the mannequins have made a significant difference in our store and I would recommend investing in them if you haven’t already. Take it from someone who is not quick to change anything.
