Stores That Make Sense

For every kind of item there is another kind of store. In the clothing industry there are countless stores the ether specializes in one thing or department stores that contain as many categories as you can imagine. This is all the nature of the business world in general; there could be a kind of store that would sell things by what made sense for example a store that sells everything to do with wrists. It would sell watches bracelets armbands and any other thing you could think of that has to do with that part of the body. But this is not the way things work. Business is all about specializing in a particular thing. There are stores that sell pens exclusively, or watches or shoes.

The reason for all this is that it creates a new focus on the part of the customer and does not overburden their minds with distractions. It also had the most important effect of carving a specialized field on the part of the seller which eliminated a lot of competition.

So in balance, stores or rather people, create different markets in order to be more successful. But as much as they are trying to be different it is far too often that these stores forget about the different ways they are supposed to present themselves to their customers.

I’ll take a simple example; if a store is selling coats, then the kinds of mannequins it should have are talk, stiff and pretty much anonymous look. They should not go to great length to get top of the line mannequins that coats a lot because in these case of coats specifically, it does not have such a big effect on the customer because all the coats are hanging up and adding a fancy mannequin does not make much of a difference. On the other hand if the store is selling sneakers or shoes then the mannequins play a more crucial role. They must be active and funky. They have to make an impression on the customer that will really stand out in their minds.

A store needs to make sense. You have to have a coherent theme in you want to get a consistent message across. In out example about we saw how having the rite kind of mannequin can play an important role in the overall impression that the store gives off. It is not enough to store at the concept of your store; you have to follow through with the uniqueness you were aiming for in the store details as well.
