Sports and Mannequins
This is such a simple idea that I’m so surprised that I did not think about it ages ago! Here is the short version of the story. I work until six in the evening. When I come home from work my two sons want to play hockey with me. I know that hockey is not a major sport in the US, but I’m originally from Canada and I have made a point of educating my children about hockey and showing them the love of the game. I always make sure to have the family sit around and watch hockey games as often as I can.
The problem is that my kids cannot get enough of it. As a matter of fact, not that I think about it, I’m not sure it’s a problem at all. But in a way it is very challenging because when I come home from work my kids are all our on the driveway wearing there blades and beg me to play goal so they can slam shots at me and try to score. This is a lot of fun but when you come home from a long day’s work it mighty hard to play hockey without having some time to unwind. So it got to a point where I had to find a way for them to play hockey without having to rely on me to play goalie.
Then I got an idea! I went online and got an amazing deal on a flexible mannequin. I brought tin t home and set it up in the goal. The kids came home and loved it! Granted it’s not the same as playing puck with a real goalie and doesn’t even come close to playing with your dad. But it works if you’re trying to work on your shot. I feel so bad for this mannequin. It really takes a beating from those kids.
I managed a small solution to the problem of my children’s addiction to hockey, but the key thing to bear in mind is that creative solutions really go a long way to making live not only more tolerable but enjoyable. I now play puck with my kids twice a week and am able to focus.
