Prominence and Profits – What Mannequins Can do For You
Perhaps this is a simple concept that most of you are aware of already, but I will take the time today to give some real concrete examples regarding the effectiveness of an age old practice in the clothing industry. I’m referring of course, to the concept of prominence.
There are innumerable ways in which store owners attempt to bolster their sales. But I think that now is not the time to get into it. I want to stick to the point and bring to your attention only that which is deserving of it so I will make this as short as I possibly can.
You can make a product attract more attention in one of two ways. You can simply situate it in a prominent place in the store, for example the front, or the center of the store. This is a rather obvious concept, because everyone knows that something in the front of the store is going to get more attention that something all tucked away in the back corner. But there is another concept which is a bit of a variation on this theme. It’s putting your product on a mannequin or a dress form. What this does ix exponentially more effective in terms of attracting more attention that tucking the same article of clothing on a shelf or on a hanger.
What mannequins and dress forms accomplish in this context is similar to the effect attractive people have as opposed to ordinary looking people. While they both do attract attention to an extent there is obviously no comparison between the levels of attention that will be paid to the two respectively.
Giving a product that best real estate in your store is a great way to get it to sell, but at the same time, putting it on a mannequin or a dress form can make it that much more noticeable. As in most things balance is critical. The ability to fine tune that optimal locations for your products is entirely in your hands.
