Matching the Style and Store Decor

There are some simple rules that I want to get into today that will help you in one of two ways. Firstly; the target reader for this article is a store owner or decorator however, if you are redecorating your home there will some things that you will be able to apply to your situation and hopefully benefit from.

I will focus on one specific example but it is important that you bear in mind that the principals and concepts that are contained within the rules that I’m going to give you here are applicable to manifold situations.

The topic is mannequins. Every store owner who is ever going to try to sell anything to do with clothing knows that mannequins and dress forms are indispensable to getting the hottest clothing recognition. It is not less than idiotic to assume that people will go through ever shelve and hanger to see what you have in your store (although some serial shoppers I know might fit that description.) the issues that I find all the time when I go into a store to redesign is that the mannequins that the store has rarely fits the overall store motif or ambiance.

If you’re selling to teenagers you have to make sure that the poses of the mannequins are done right. they have to be active and sexy. They have to look like the people you are trying to sell too. Similarly, if you are targeting upscale customers then you have to go play down the sex appeal and bolster up on the class. You have to aim for a display mannequin with an elegant and dignified look.  And finally, if you are catering to children make sure that you have active looking child mannequins so the children will take notice.

You have to understand what kind of customer you want to walk into your store and then orient you store atmosphere and environment synchronized with the relevant style that will most appeal to your customers. Don’t improvise! Don’t think that you can get away with mix and matching! It’s not going to work.
