Mannequins in Uncommon Places

I work for an online mannequins company. I don’t sit behind a desk and answer emails or take call, I’m a sales rep. although my company is online based they still have two people going from place to place trying to make sales. I’m not going to lie; it is a very grueling process. I get turned down most of the time and I don’t make me fell to good about myself, but that is just the emotional side of it. The hard fact about sales is that it all depends on you and if you don’t make sales you are literally not going to be able to put food on your table.

So here is my story. I was having a very hard month; In fact I did not make a single sale. I was coming off of a rocking month and still had a lot of confidence and optimism but it was running out fast. Anyway, after a long day of cold calling I decided to go for a ride to ease my mind. I got on the highway and started driving with no particular direction in mind. I got so lost in my thoughts that I ended up losing my way and pulling into a rest stop. I normally drive with my GPS and don’t run into these kinds of problems but I was not planning on going anywhere and I therefore left my GPS at home.

To make a long story short I got out of my car and went into the rest stop to get a drink and direction. I walked in and wondered around the gift shop for a few minutes. Then it occurred to me, the store was selling camouflage hunting hats and tee shirts and there was not a mannequin to be found. All the shirts were folded on shelves and the hats were all piled up in a very unattractive way.

So I went to the women behind the counter and began a conversation about the place. It turns out that it was not a franchise but a classic mom and pop shop. She and her husband opened the place and ran it for over thirty years. Long story short I gave them mannequins for a free trial and they saw an increase in sales.

What is important to remember is that you never know were r when your luck is going to strike so keep it moving and keep your spirits up and something will happen.
