Mannequin Snowman
I made a great activity for my kids last winter; it was the talk of town. My three children, Beth, Sara, and josh, were playing around the house. It was the fourth time in two weeks that school was cancelled due to snow. Now don’t get me wrong, I love having the kids’ home and the joy on their sweet faces when I tell them in the morning that there is snow school is priceless. But I have to confess with a bit of guilt that it was starting to become a problem. I was having a very difficult time finding them things to do. I would play games with them for as long as I could but I ran out of ideas and couldn’t keep them calm. I was so exhausted one night that I actually fell asleep before I could but them to bed, it was a disaster.
So I called my mom hoping for some ideas on how to “hold down the fort” and she worked some magic! My father was a Taylor for forty years and had a bunch of things down in the basement from his old store. Amongst the junk were three full body mannequins. I can’t remember ever seeing them in the store but I guess they must have been buried under the clutter. So my mother told me to come over and take them and have the kids cover them in snow. I couldn’t see how that could work but being so desperate I got into the car and got them.
I brought them home and told the kids about the project. Each one would have their own mannequin and they would have to cover them in snow and make an original snow man, or actually snow women because the mannequins happened to be female display mannequins for whatever reason.
The kids loved it! They got up before me the next morning and were outside all day! They had to come in and change gloves because there old ones kept getting soaked through. It was a great idea hand really helped me get through the winter. If you can find some cheap mannequins online I strongly suggest you give this a try, its great fun and your kids will love you for it!
