Copying the Copied

This is a small piece about ingenuity. About how we humans have adapted to our environment, and how that effects our lives today.

It is a point of great debate as to the origins of some of the most fundamental human tools that have raised us up above that apes and placed the crown of dominion on our heads.

Was it fire? Was it the wheel? Was it the domestication of the animals? Was it learning to plant vegetation and crops? No one knows for sure. There are parts of the world were some of these have emerged long before others, as well as places in which things like the wheel never did emerge but had to be introduced via importation, like in the case of the native Americans.

But ancient discoveries are a moot point in reference to this discussion. More recent inventions illustrate the trailblazing progress of humanity. From Edison’s light bulb to fords modal T. Even from smaller inventions that boost industry, like the refrigerator or mannequins.  We have really come a long way a purple.

But the point that interests me most is not the functional inventions or discoveries but the most revolutionary and godlike inventions. Like the computer and robotics.

These are truly the most innovation and ingenious of all. It is one thing to create a mannequin it is quite another to create a mannequin that creates other mannequins! It is easy to calculate what one piece of silicon plus ten thousand pieces of silicon is, it is quite another to make a piece of silicon calculate that same problem. And herein lays the true progress of man. It is not simply our ability to subordinate our environment to our needs and desires but the ability to manipulate matter into preforming complex calculations and tasks

This triumph is great and will inevitably and perhaps does already play a crucial role in our survival as a species. The only instance in which it is rivaled it our natural reproductive abilities and the engineer for this, whether is be evolution or god, it the true master craftsman.
