Adding Your Personal Touch

Adding Your Personal Touch

Contrary to popular belief, adding a personal touch in the fashion industry is very difficult. Now I know this doesn’t sound like it makes sense but if you think about it for a moment you would realize what I’m trying to say. Which is, how can you stand out in a world where everyone is trying to stand out?

Everyone who has ever been to Chelsea or Soho can tell you that some people try to stand out and in the process trample all fashion sense. Loud gaudy clothing or excessively immodest clothing is not that path I want to go down in the process or trying to express my individual sense of style and taste.

The truth is I don’t feel like I need much help finding out what looks good for me, what I have had a difficult time getting rite it trying to make my store stand out. Just like people, stores have a style and theme that is used to try to make customers feel at home in a funky or classy environment.

And just like people stores can also underdo or overdo there attempts at creativity and ambiance.

In the store that I manage, I’m not really able to get my boss to redesign the whole place because it is very expansive. But I was able to do something which really did make a difference; I traded in our store mannequins for dress forms.

With dress forms there is so much you can work with. First of all they are much less commonly used then mannequins and they also take up less space. You can also use the immediate environment around the dress form itself to enhance whatever the dress form is wearing.

I made the switch form mannequins to dress forms and it really allowed me to express a pleasant vibe in the store that I’m sure my customers felt and enjoyed.
